These natural, untreated 8mm round blue chalcedony beads are my highest grade. They have rich color saturation with minor variations in transparency. The beads are a gorgeous periwinkle blue with excellent shape and drilling.
Chalcedony is a term typically used to refer to the white, gray, or blue forms of microcrystalline quartz. I have been told by gemologists that most chalcedony on the market is dyed and much of it is of lower agate quality with telltale banding. These beads are pure chalcedony with no banding.
Most of the beads I get are waxed. This is standard treatment that gives a good shine to the beads. These blue chalcedony beads are not waxed, which means the beads had to go through two more rounds of polishing with diamond powder than most manufacturers perform.
