Aventurine is a name given to a gemstone composed primarily of quartz (as opposed to aventurine feldspar, which is called sunstone). Aventurine comes in various colors, the most popular being green and red. Trace amounts of fuchsite will color the aventurine green and trace amounts of hematite or goethite will give it its red coloring. These trace amount of minerals also provide aventurine with a glittery optical effect known as aventurescence.
Aventurine quartz is mined in Brazil, Russia, Tanzania, India and Austria.
